[/earsausage]

Oh yeah, I've moved.  All cozy and settled into my paul-erickson.net address.  The bad news is that it isn't a bit more interesting like I promised.  Sue me.

Well, then, I must relegate another fine site of mine to the annals of history.  This is truly the end of an era.

New domain... soon!

So I've finally got myself a domain: paul-erickson.net

Now, I know it's not that original or interesting, but hey, neither is this one! (not to mention the new one is also completely devoid of content at time of posting)  I'm still toying with different CMS ideas, whether to just poing Blogger over there or to try hosting something like Drupal.  I'm also not sure whether I want to use Flock to blog, or maybe try to stick to the text editor as much as possible.  Opera is out for sure though, it still sucks with Blogger.  Sorry, Truevox, I just couldn't stay away from my Opera!  It has it's faults, I know, but the features it has are all meaningful.  Flock was exciting at first:  "Ooh, Facebook integration!", "Wee, Gmail integration!", but then I realized that if you look past several useless sidebars, and a poor excuse for a Gmail notifier, web pages still look like the same old web pages.  At the end of the day it's just Firefox, a version behind, and without much customization.

But take heart, Opera 9.5 was just released!

Now with less retarded email storage!

All I'm tryin'a say is - stay tuned for a far more interesting blog at paul-erickson.net

Merry belated Christmas and a happy New Year!

So Christmas happened 'n stuff.  It was a good time, and I got my yearly supply of tea and slippers.  I hope your Christmas was fantastic too.
I saw the Golden Compass t'other day, and I have to say they did not do justice to the books.  I haven't read any of them and still I feel I can say this.  I'm exited for Sweeny Todd tomorrow night with Matt, though.  Speaking of books for which no justice is done by movies, Stephen R. Donaldson has released book one of The Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, which may mean some hope for me picking up the habit of reading again.  the last 6 books of the series was the last lengthy thing I actually read from start to finish in a remotely timely fashion.

Good luck with your New Year's resolutions!

Ubuntu: Take Two

Okay, I've migrated over to Ubuntu (again), but I have a feeling it's gonna stick this time (the WinXP partitions are more corrupt than the Chinese government).  My music is the only stuff I care about that's been corrupted, and it's not too bad, just one song here and there.  Anyways, Ubuntu is frustrating me a bit, crashing and lagging, etc., but nothing's perfect; the real test is whether or not I can put up with it through the school year without reverting.
Back to school in a couple weeks!

DIGG - Anti-DRM T-Shirt Designs: Vote Now

Negotiate

We don’t like DRM, and we’re not the only one. Unfortunately, the majority of the movie companies and record labels still think it’s the best way to “protect” their music. Let us show them it’s not, it only hinders honest customers.

Ext2fsd is my buddy

So, I have all my movies, TV shows, audiobooks, software, etc. on this Ext3 partition, right?  I've been using Ext2IFS to mount this on Windoze, but after some repartitioning/resizing complications, I found myself with like 3 drive letters for the thing, the original one being dead. This means I could still access my goodies, but as far as filesharing programs are concerned, the paths were invalid.
Today, I installed Ext2fsd, and it is lovely; no crap, and it let me reclaim R:  Long story short - y'all can start leeching my stuff again.

In other news:  yes, it's that time of year again - Nethack tourney season!
Test your skillz against returning champion, me, and expect lots of sweet, hot new features!
Full deets on the RC blog, when I get to it.

Happy Turkeyday!

It's Thanksgivingtime once again, and I'm hangin' out at the casa de cousins - almost home! Can't wait to spend some quality time with my schoolies once again, and go to Tokyo Sushi and perhaps Priya. Japanese and Indian food is pretty friggin hard to come by on the far side of the bridge.

Anyways, eat safe, everyone, and I'll catch ya on the dl, by which I mean Royal Oak.

College!

eh, close enough.

As usual, sooo much has happened since last post. Most notably, I'm at NMU! (CGNU was too expensive) For those of you that haven't already asked me twenty times, I'm double majoring in Network Computing and Hospitality Management (as soon as technology allows, I shall open the world's first MMO-restaurant).
By a stroke of brilliant luck, my roommate ditched, and I've got the whole room/bathroom to myself! Everybody is jealous and plotting my demise.

The fam just mailed my camera cable, so here's a couple pics:
My Dorm

They could give me a roommate at any time, but I gather that the chemical free house of the wellness hall isn't in very high demand :) so maybe I'll have the place to myself for the whole semester. I'm loving The Boulevard (my house), everybody's awesome and friendly and whatnot, and there's a sauna in the basement!

I just got a new Razr v3m yesterday, so now I officially have a buttload of electronics.

By the way, NMU's food is the best stuff I've ever had from a cafeteria. We've got the only college-affiliated Starbucks in the world, and a sushi/boba tea place just opened. Anyone who attends a different college is an idiot. period.

DIGG - Hacker Coalition Releases Lawsuit Proof P2P System

The Digital Douwd has challenged the media giants by releasing its Owner-Free Filing System. The new system is purported to be immune from the consumer lawsuits that have plagued previous P2P systems. While the creators do not contend the fact that copyright laws exist, they do maintain that OFF System peers don't actually break any of those laws.

very overdue post

Sooo much stuff has happened. Schoool's owt!
I can't really remember anything notable before prom, which was kickass. I had such a great time, Gina was gorgeous, and all my schoolies were dressed up nice!

Me and Gina!

The Rogue Club bigwigs.

Well, that's all old news, now. Saturday was commencement, and I got me a diploma! It was fairly uninteresting, otherwise.
My grandpa got me a nice new digital camera for graduation, and it is real sweet!
'Round 11, was the all night party. Sooo great. Nice and laid-back, not too crowded, lotsa fun. They didn't want us to bring cameras, so they gave us disposables. Therefore, pictures pending. Got home bright and early, around 7. Didn't last long before I had to take a nap and regain my wits. Then on to Gary's grad party! Needless to say, I took lots of pictures with my brand new digicam.

Gary doing silly glasses thing
Only got one real picture of Gary, somehow. He was pretty busy, I suppose.

Evan and Maria
Maria didn't want a picture.

Tony stealing the spotlight, as usual
I'm so going to miss Tony's silliness.

Goldberg and Rye-Rye
"Low brass gon' shock ya!"

Gary throws a mean party, even after a pretty late night/morning. What a yard!
Here's all the pictures, though I may have used up all the bandwidth
email me for überhighresolution pics.

Oh, somehow, in the middle of all this, I won the Rogue Club 1st Annual Rogue Tournament. w00t!

Now, I've got all sorts of preparations for my own party, on Saturday. Bleh.

The song of right now is Dragostea Din Tei by O-Zone!!!

Easter!

Spring Break!! Woo Hooo!!
and almost Easter, too. I can't wait (that means "Christ is Risen", up there^, in Ukrainian)

I think I'll apply at Tim Horton's across the street. I've been hoping for someplace a bit classier, but I still haven't got my license, and that would be just so effin convenient.

Tobiah - I exist therefore I sing
is still one of my favorites

fried rice

I saw Ice Age 2 yesterday. I never saw the original, but it wasn't too bad. Still gotta gotta see V for Vendetta!
I just had a lot of very good fried rice. I don't know why I don't make fried rice all the time.
maybe i'll start remembering to update this more than once a month. maybe fried rice isn't exciting enough to warrant an update at all.
of course it is.
Now I've got to go put off writing an overdue essay or two.

it's friday

So Pop Concert was quite sweet, of course. I failed a precalc test today, and I'm afraid my GPA is in a bad way, this marking period. Nothing unrecoverable, though.
The whole school is abuzz about the upcoming Rogue Tournament. The exact date is still not set, but it's coming right up, and it's gonna be sweet.

Happy New Year!

Geez, I'm bad at this. Anyways, we did MSBOA last night, and kind of sucked - all 2's and 3's. Problem is the winds are crampin' my style. Speaking of concerts, I think I'll make Pop Concert for the first time in years. I'm planning on 2:00, but chances are I'll forget and do 8:00. We'll see.
I'm listening to Fischerspooner - Get Confused, and it's my Myspace song, too.

Christmastime

Sledding with Jesus

The holidays are upon us! Repent!!
So I finally got some gifts, and traffic's a bitch. I am totally looking forward to getting some good teas for Christmas. Ugh, but that's about all I'll be able to enjoy, cause I'm having oral surgery two days after Christmas. bleh.

Hey, I made a myspace the other day, just for shits 'n giggles. Also, I'm considering starting a Chuck E. Cheese's type joint, and calling it Shits 'n Giggles. hehe, put that ratassed creep right outa business

But seriously, have a terrific religious holiday celebration. If you're not religious you can just have a terrific day.

almost christmas break

Finally got around to filling out applications for Michigan Tech. and Northern, and even signed up for Segment 2! Now if I can just get around to that poetry homework too...
weekend is cool, I think I was too stressed with homework or something during the week. Playin' Halo in Italian. mmm mm it's sweet. Not much of an appetite so I'll have to just have mac 'n cheese. meh.

Thanksgivingtime

Things are finally unbusying, though I'm worried about the marking period ending on wednesday. Better make sure I've got my shit in and my fingers crossed. I seem to be succeeding in getting extracurricular action for college apps, resumes, and personal edification. French Club tomorrow, Math Club the day after, and German Club next week - it turns out you don't have to be in german to join. Good thing, cause I don't know a word.
I look forward to Thanksgiving, and it's gonna kick all kinds of ass. mm
hey, check it out, it's Snare Rush Disco by Role Model

bleh

Man, I'm still too busy for my taste. Assignments and shit. Had an awexome time on Sunday, though. I guess it's been a long time, but we didn't make states, now that we've been having nice warm weather. I'm not too broken up, though, I've got plenty of great memories. I'd really like to start working on that water submersion idea I've been toying with, and not worry about assignments and shit. Or have like a nice break from school - not a catch-up-on-homework break or a clean-the-basement break, but a sleep-in-and-play-video-games-all-day kinda break.
Coheed and Cambria - The Velorium Camper I: Faint of Heart
I better do some work now, and then chill out. I reccommend you do the same.

Friday, October 28, 2005

I'm totally swamped lately with stuff to (which is not exactly to say that I'm busy), homework in ITA, homework in everything else, a computer to fix, my own monitor to fix, college apps to fill out, college visits to sign up for, preparing for an event at church on Sunday (I'm feeding everybody), oh and making scones tomorrow for the competition. Just a shitload of stuff.
So, tomorrow is possibly my last competition ever, but I've got my fingers crossed (not while drumming) that we'll do well enough to get to States. I would just love to play in the Silverdome again. Wednesday was the last evening rehearsal, so we did the traditional naked(boxer) runthrough, and holy shit it was cold.
mmm I look forward to tea and fresh warm chocolate chip scones tomorrow
I'm listening to Interpol - Evil, as I get back to the bratwurst I forgot about.

we broke 60!

Damn, I keep forgetting about this thing. Well homecoming was pretty sweet, and quite some time ago, now. I really should have pictures of some of this stuff, like I don't even have a picture of myself on here (I could make that a sweet background for all three monitors). Also, I never got that cadence quite right, but it's the closest I've gotten in three years, so I'm satisfied. We're out of excuses to stay inside now, so I spend every day retuning my timpani (to find them detuned the next day), whilst freezing my balls off. I really wish marching band didn't end in a week, though. Speaking of which, we scored 62 last night! We have some sort of chance at states now, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
It's Prodigy - Breath right now.
